Mazda MX-30 achieves five-star Euro NCAP rating | Central Garages

ALL-NEW MAZDA MX-30 ACHIEVES FIVE-STAR EURO NCAP RATING

The all-electric Mazda MX-30 has been awarded the maximum five-star rating by Euro NCAP in its latest series of tests with 91% and 87% scores in its respective adult and child occupancy categories. The 91% rating is the best adult occupant protection result yet registered amongst all vehicles tested in the latest 2020 Euro NCAP tests.

Achieving maximum points in the lateral impact tests, the MX-30 also scored full marks for crash test performance based on six and ten-year old children for both frontal and lateral impact. The MX-30 is the first Mazda to achieve an overall five-star rating under the new more stringent 2020 Euro NCAP crashworthiness rating regime. The 2020 testing introduces new tests to enhance assessment of occupant protection and post-crash protection, plus promote the latest in advanced driver assistance active safety technology.

The all-electric MX-30 joins the CX-5, Mazda6, Mazda3 and CX-30 in achieving a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The Mazda MX-30 performed impressively in all four Euro NCAP test categories: Adult Occupant: 91%, Child Occupant: 87%, Vulnerable Road User (pedestrian safety): 68% and Safety Assist: 73%. The rating is a result of three key factors: the adoption of the very latest Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture, which features a high-rigidity, impact-absorbing yet lightweight bodyshell; a wide range of advanced i-Activsense safety technologies which help drivers identify potential risks and reduce the likelihood of damage or injury; and high standards of pedestrian protection performance.

A stand out design element of the MX-30 is its Freestyle doors, a heritage link to the 2003 Mazda RX-8. This, however, doesn’t adversely affect safety. In fact, the “analysis of the deformed crush element from the offset frontal test indicated that the MX-30 structure did not pose a high risk to the occupants of a colliding vehicle in a frontal offset impact,” testers said. “In both the side barrier test – representing a collision by another vehicle, and the more severe side pole impact, protection of all critical body areas was good and the car scored maximum points for these two tests”.

Mazda works continuously to advance safety performance under the Mazda Proactive Safety philosophy. The superior driving dynamics achieved as a result of Mazda’s Skyactiv Technology also contribute to the new Mazda MX-30’s five-star Euro NCAP achievement, delivering a very intuitive, enjoyable, all-electric driving experience. By making the car easier to drive safely, the technologies reduce the potential for accidents without compromising Mazda’s traditional fun-to-drive character.

As proved by the NCAP results, all MX-30s come with a comprehensive standard safety specification, while GT Sport Tech adds to this with a host of extra active safety technology and a 360-degree view monitor.

Across the entire MX-30 range and the limited-edition First Edition, the MX-30’s distinctive, stylish and sustainable cabin features high-quality materials and a driver focused interior. The lower console incorporates a 7-inch colour touch-screen air conditioning control panel, and in a nod to Mazda’s founding as the Toyo Kogyo Cork Company in 1920, the Mazda MX-30 features cork lined centre console trays and inner side door handles. Harvested from the bark of trees without felling, the use of cork and door trim materials that incorporate fibres from recycled plastic bottles, are perfectly suited to Mazda’s first pure electric production car. Benefiting passengers and drivers alike, the sense of space is enhanced with a floating centre console that sits independently from the dashboard, while the use of environmentally-friendly materials has been carefully matched to meticulous quality and finish.

With the First Edition MX-30 order book now open, customers in the UK can reserve a car for just £800 for delivery early in 2021 and the addition of free home charging installation further adds to the excellent value of this limited-edition model. A battery electric vehicle conceived and created with Mazda’s well-renowned focus on distinctive styling, innovative technology, driver focused dynamics and class-leading interior quality, the MX-30 will be a stand out addition to the rapidly evolving EV marketplace. Adding, “with the announcement of pricing and specification of the three-model UK MX-30 line up, our customers and dealers can see that next year we will have a well-equipped EV range that forms part of an electrification strategy that has already seen Mazda M Hybrid, mild hybrid fitted as standard to the Mazda3, Mazda CX-30 and manual Mazda2s.
